UZBEKISTAN IN GREEN WEEK BERLIN

The agro-industrial potential of Uzbekistan has been presented at the international agricultural fair, Green Week 2017, which took place last week in the German capital. It was attended by more than 1.6 thousand companies and farmers from 66 countries around the world.

Our country’s national stand presented a wide range of fresh and dried fruits, vegetables and melons, fat and wine products as well as other goods of the domestic food industry.

The exhibition helped Uzbek businesses to sign agreements and contracts for the exports of fruit and vegetable products for more than $150 million in 2017.

As part of the Green Week Berlin, a presentation of the agricultural potential of Uzbekistan was attended by representatives of business, academic and public circles and media of Germany.

Those present were informed in detail about the current economic development of Uzbekistan, the measures taken to improve the business climate in the country, the modernization and support for the agricultural sector, the priority areas of investment cooperation in agriculture.

Managing Director of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, Michael Harms, said that Uzbekistan has unique natural and climatic conditions, huge economic and investment potential, and is an ideal partner for the representatives of German business circles, including in agriculture. The German companies have a strong interest in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with the republic, he noted. “It is appropriate to underscore that giants such as CLAAS, MAN, Lemken, KNAUF, and a number of other companies are successfully operating in Uzbekistan. Taking into account the real possibilities of the country in machinery, agrochemicals, food, leather, textiles, as well as the prospects for the introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture, the German business is interested in intensifying cooperation with Uzbek partners in these areas. During today’s talks, we also discussed the organization of the export of fruits and vegetables to European markets, including Germany. In turn, the Federal Republic, as a manufacturer of modern technologies, is willing to further its close interaction with Uzbekistan, including in the sphere of support for small businesses."

Promising directions of cooperation in the field of agro-industrial complex were discussed by Uzbek specialists with Managing Director of the International Agricultural Society DLG International GmbH, Bernd Koch, who said, “We have been convinced of the great potential for the development of partnerships, in particular in processing fruits and vegetables. Therefore, we are ready to cooperate with the Uzbek companies on a long term basis."
