UZBEKISTAN IS OUR COMMON HOME

As enshrined in the country’s Constitution, the Republic of Uzbekistan ensures respect for the languages, customs and traditions of nationalities and ethnic groups living in its territory and the creation of conditions for their development.

First President Islam Karimov’s policy based on this principle was the main factor of peace, civil and inter-ethnic accord in Uzbekistan.

This is confirmed by an opinion poll conducted by the Ijtimoiy Fikr public opinion study centre on the theme of “Uzbekistan is our common home”, in which representatives of various nationalities took part. Their responses show that the people of Uzbekistan are for peace, stability, civil and inter-ethnic accord in society, and these are achievements of independence and are of the highest value. An absolute majority (99.6 per cent) of those polled share this belief.

At the heart of this civil and inter-ethnic accord in society are the state’s social policy directed towards providing care for ordinary people, stability in the economic and socio-political spheres, Uzbek people’s magnanimity and kindness and their high moral qualities.

Results of the opinion poll indicate that an absolute majority (89.5 per cent) of the people feel proud of being citizens of Uzbekistan. The number of respondents with this opinion is increasing with every passing year, which clearly confirms their civic and patriotic feelings.

It is also remarkable that representatives of all age groups and nationalities are happy and proud to be citizens of Uzbekistan.

This opinion poll indicates that the population of Uzbekistan highly value the observance of citizens’ rights and liberties enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regardless of their ethnic origin or religious belief.

It is evident from the opinion poll results that in the population’s estimation, the socio-political situation in the country is steadily stable and that people approve of and support peace and civic accord in society.

An absolute majority (99.1 per cent) of the citizens do not intend to leave Uzbekistan for permanent residence in other countries. They think: “There is no country in the world better than Uzbekistan”.

People believe that the most important things at this phase of development are the further strengthening of peace, stability, civic and inter-ethnic accord, the raising of the living standards and quality of life, the preservation of Uzbek people’s traditions and the restoration of their historical heritage, as well as spiritual and moral development.

Opinion poll results show that the country’s citizens are confident that the stability of inter-ethnic relations will be maintained in future as President-elect of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is continuing the implementation of the peace-loving policy of Islam Karimov, and is giving great attention to ensuring peace and calm in the country and strengthening the atmosphere of inter-ethnic accord and unity.
