Uzbekistan's initiatives in ensuring human rights are widely recognized

As previously reported, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the invitation of the President of the United States of America Donald Trump, will pay an official visit to the USA on May 15-17, 2018.

On the eve of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the United States, members of the delegation of Uzbekistan are taking part in a number of important events. Thus, the National Press Club in Washington hosted a conference on “Uzbekistan’s success in ensuring human rights and future tasks”.

The event, organized jointly by the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the International Press Club, the National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States and a number of international organizations, was attended by prominent scientists, experts and representatives of the mass media.

It was noted that the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the laws adopted on its basis created a solid legal basis for reforming all spheres of state and society. The Constitution of Uzbekistan reflects the basic principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which became the first international legal document that Uzbekistan joined after independence.

Today, Uzbekistan is a party to 70 core human rights instruments. The country joined 10 major international treaties, adopted by the UN in this field.

At the conference it was emphasized that activities carried out by Uzbekistan in recent years in the field of human rights is especially noted by the international community.

Views were exchanged on the role of the judiciary in protecting the citizens’ rights and interests, and the results achieved in reforming the judicial and legal system of the country.
