UZBEKISTAN TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

The State Conservatory, the Batir Zakirov Pop-Symphonic Orchestra, and Ilhom Theatre have organised the 3rd International Jazz Festival, to be held from 30 March to 30 April, with support by the Uzbek culture ministry, UNESCO in Uzbekistan, German, Indian, Indonesian, Latvian, Turkish, Swiss, and Czech embassies and with participation of Estonian performers.

The festival aims to offer local and foreign jazz musicians an opportunity to celebrate the genre, promote cultural diversity and uphold international dialogue by holding concerts and jam sessions, workshops, and creative meetings.

In November 2011, UNESCO officially declared 30 April to be International Jazz Day the world over. In December 2012, the UN General Assembly approved the initiative, with April pronounced to be the Jazz Month.

International Jazz Day promotes peace, intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and respect for human rights and dignity. It brings together the civil society, educational institutions, artists, historians, teachers and music fans the world over.

This year, International Jazz Day is celebrated for the sixth time. The Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz is expected to announce the Jazz capital of 2017.

Uzbekistan joins the international community with the 3rd International Jazz Festival which invites many guests and involves many programmes and styles. The festival will take place in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Kokand.
