WITHOUT A GREEN ECONOMY, THE FUTURE WILL ‘GRAY UP'

The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres yesterday began his Central Asian tour. During the trip, the head of the organization will travel to the Aral Sea region.

Lately, in every speech of Antonio Guterres, the topic of climate change is there as the critical issue, which, he said, is a real and undeniable threat to the entire mankind.

Recently, speaking at the University of New York, the Secretary-General called on all countries to implement the Paris Agreement and take a course on ‘greening’ the economy, warning that another way it will lead to a ‘gray’ future. Those who do not believe in a green economy are waiting for a gray future, said the UN official, and added that companies using green technologies will set the gold standard for economic leadership in the 21st century.

2016 was the hottest in the history of observations, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached critical highs.

In this regard, Antonio Guterres called for the implementation of all provisions of the Paris Agreement, which proposed to pave the way for a low-carbon and environmentally sustainable future. Every month, more countries include provisions of the Paris Agreement in national climate action plans. Yes, not everyone will move at the same pace or with the same energy. But if any government doubts the need for this agreement, it should make all other countries closer together and not deviate from the course, the Secretary-General insisted.
